On International Children’s Day, the premiere of The Caliph Stork took place at the Uzbek National Puppet Theatre. The production was created on the initiative of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation.
The first audience members included children from specialised kindergartens for children with disabilities, beneficiaries of the “Imkon” rehabilitation centre, as well as families listed in the social register.
The performance is based on Wilhelm Hauff’s classic fairy tale, reimagined as a story about the search for freedom and the price of loneliness. The protagonist longs to gain wings and fly away, yet the path to true flight proves to be entirely different. Magical transformations, 16 performers, more than 30 puppets, and an international creative team combine to create a rich, multi-layered stage world for audiences aged six and above.
The international creative team behind the production included director Roman Boklanov, set designer Alina Korytova, lighting designer Kseniya Kozlova, technical director Sergey Korytov, playwright Klavdiya Gushchina, and composer Alima Baiterekova.
Performances of The Caliph Stork will run at the Uzbek National Puppet Theatre until 14 June.
