Dr Nasser bin Hamad Al Hinzab, Chairman of the UNESCO Executive Board, visited a number of cultural institutions and traditional craft centres in Tashkent, where he was introduced to initiatives aimed at preserving cultural heritage, promoting traditional craftsmanship and supporting emerging creative professionals. He also visited the Centre for Islamic Civilisation in Uzbekistan, one of the largest museum projects in the region.

During the visit, Dr Al Hinzab was introduced to the activities of the Namuna Art Residence and the Naqsh School of Crafts, including their educational programmes and initiatives designed to foster international creative collaboration and nurture the next generation of artists, craftspeople and designers.

Dr Al Hinzab also visited Madina Kasymbaeva’s suzani embroidery workshop, where he learned about the traditions of this unique form of decorative and applied art, viewed contemporary works and explored training programmes for young craftspeople. He highly commended Uzbekistan’s efforts to preserve its cultural heritage and promote traditional crafts.
