In Washington, a meeting took place between Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, and Lonnie G. Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. The discussions focused on prospects for expanding co-operation and strengthening institutional dialogue between Uzbekistan and the Smithsonian Institution.

The parties agreed to collaborate on joint exhibition initiatives dedicated to Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage, the development of projects in the field of contemporary art, scientific programmes and research — including work with museum collections and archaeological initiatives — as well as academic and professional exchanges and educational programmes aimed at engaging young people.
